News from some of the garden design graduates Ruth Lewis loves her new job with Jo Swift and is extremely busy designing gardens for his Modular garden range. This is down to earth no-nonsense garden design with a high turnover of jobs and strict budgets – an excellent way to consolidate everything she learnt on the Diploma course.
Janet Lynam and Lorna Walker have decided to work together on various projects. They have been asked to design a bee-lovers’ garden for the 2006 Chelsea Flower Show for the Hampstead Garden Suburb Horticultural Association (the lead for this came from Peter Darty Head of History). They have been challenged by this project as the garden measures only 4 x 4.5m. However they have come up with a stunning contemporary design that the committee thinks is just wonderful. Now they have to pass muster at the RHS and raise funds for the design. They have also been given the go-ahead for a garden for a special needs school in North London . This is very exciting and they will find that the school project they did as part of their Diploma course will be of great benefit. The school caters for children that are mildly to severely handicapped and also range in age from four years upwards. They have had such a busy summer that Lorna has not been able to do any planning for her forthcoming wedding.
Ben has applied to go on and study further as has Soraya who has decided to do an MA in Landscape Design even though she was offered a job with a garden designer she greatly admires in the Lebanon.
