This workshop is the perfect launch pad for your distance learning studies. In the magnificent and inspirational surroundings of Hampton Court Palace, students are taken on a step-by-step guide on how to get the maximum benefit out of their course.
The day will help students make a study timetable for the course (and advise on how to stick to it!) There will be guidance on how to approach project work, including tips on how it should be presented, as well as how to undertake research for the garden history projects. Technical drawing can be one of the more daunting aspects of the course and there will be a demonstration of the equipment and how it is used to demystify this subject.
The day will be run by Open Learning tutors, so you will be able to put a face to a name when you use one of the Student Support Services and there is obviously the opportunity to meet other students on the same course.
Students who attend this day find themselves confident and motivated to tackle their Open Learning Course.
The syllabus includes:-
- Introduction and the KLC learning philosophy
- Logistics of doing and submitting coursework
- Botanical classification and the Latin binomial system of nomenclature
- Plant portfolios
- Technical drawing demonstration
- Practical workshops on sketching and concept boards
- Examples of students' project work
- Question and answer session
